How to Install
Every Wallplicity order arrives as pre-cut panels, ready to hang. Set aside an afternoon, invite a second pair of hands, and follow the steps for your material.
Before you hang anything
Three things set up every smooth install, no matter which wallpaper you chose.
Let it rest 48 hours
Unroll your wallpaper and lay it flat for 48 hours so it adjusts to your room. Rested paper hangs flat and behaves.
Count and check panels
Confirm every panel is here and the colors match. Numbered panels hang in sequence, so keep them in order.
Bring a friend
Two people make this easier and a lot more fun. One aligns the panel, the other smooths it down.
Prep your wall
Wallpaper holds best on smooth, clean, semi-matte walls. Fix these surfaces before you start.
Unpainted
Cracking paint
Humidity spots
Knockdown
Orange peel
Popcorn
Fill and sand
Fill holes and sand bumps until the wall is smooth. Skip glossy walls and existing wallpaper.
Give fresh paint time
Freshly painted or primed walls need 2 to 7 days to dry before install.
Clean the wall
Wipe with a damp cloth 24 hours ahead, then let it dry. Skip harsh cleaners.
Clear the wall
Remove outlet covers and skirting boards before you begin.
Follow your material
Pick the wallpaper you ordered. Each set of steps is written just for it.
Peel & Stick
Fabric and Vinyl. You will need a level and pencil, a squeegee, sandpaper and a spatula for prep, and a step ladder.
Draw your guide line
Use the level to draw a straight vertical line where your first panel starts. The whole wall depends on this line.
Peel the top 12 inches
Fold the backing down about 12 inches from the top of the panel.
Place the top edge on the line
Stick the first panel exactly on your guide line. Numbered panels hang in sequence.
Never stretch the panel
A stretched panel shrinks back later and opens gaps at the seams.
Smooth as you go
Work top to bottom. Push air bubbles from the center out to the edges with the squeegee.
Peel and press in sections
Keep removing the backing a section at a time, pressing and smoothing until you reach the floor.
Fix mistakes calmly
Placed it wrong? Peel back a small section and reposition. No damage done.
Butt the seams
Panel edges touch, never overlap. Match the pattern to the previous panel at the top before smoothing down.
Smooth again after 24 hours
One final pass over the full wall locks everything in.
Finish
Trim the excess at top and bottom with sharp scissors or a utility knife. Clean cuts, clean edges.
Traditional Pre-Pasted
You will need a level and pencil, clean water with a sponge or spray bottle, a smoothing tool, rags and a drop cloth, and a step ladder.
Draw your guide line
Use the level to draw a straight vertical line where your first panel starts.
Wet the back
Activate the paste with a damp sponge or spray bottle across the entire back of the panel. Do not oversaturate.
Book the panel
Fold it loosely, paste side to paste side, edges aligned. Wait 1 minute so the paste activates and the paper relaxes.
Hang the top on the line
Unfold the top and align it to the top of the wall, leaving a little excess for trimming. Numbered panels hang in sequence.
Unfold and smooth downward
Work down the wall, smoothing from the center out to the edges as you go.
Butt the seams
Panel edges touch, never overlap.
Wipe as you go
A damp sponge lifts any paste squeezing out at the seams before it dries.
Seal the seams
After the last panel, press along every seam and edge with the smoothing tool.
Finish
Trim the excess at top and bottom, then let the wall dry for several hours.
Traditional Unpasted
You will need wallpaper glue, a paintbrush or roller, a moist sponge, a level and pencil, sandpaper and a spatula for prep, and a step ladder.
Draw your guide line
Use the level to draw a straight vertical line where your first panel starts.
Glue the wall
Roll an even coat of wallpaper glue onto the section you are about to cover.
Hang the first panel on the line
Every panel after depends on the accuracy of this one.
Smooth from the center out
Push air bubbles from the center of the panel to the edges.
Butt the seams
Panel edges touch, never overlap.
Sponge the edges
After each panel, wipe stray glue off the seams with the moist sponge before it dries.
Repeat across the wall
Glue, hang, smooth, wipe. Panel by panel until the wall is done.
Finish
Trim the excess at top and bottom with sharp scissors or a utility knife.
