Lido Deck is a retro fashion wallpaper of illustrated nineteen fifties bathers in polka dot swimsuits, cat eye sunglasses and wide sun hats, posed across a clean white ground. It gives a reading nook or powder room the glamour of a Riviera pool.

The design

The figures are painted in a loose fashion plate style, long limbs and confident poses in navy, red, cream and sea blue, tossed in loose ranks so no two neighbours strike the same pose. From across the room the wall reads as a lively scatter of colour on white. Up close every sunglass and polka dot is crisp. Daylight keeps it bright and lamplight warms the white to ivory.

Works best in

Reading nooks, powder rooms, mudrooms and media rooms. It is a pattern with a sense of humour, and it belongs where guests will see it.

Style notes

Teak, white lacquer and chrome are the partners. White trim keeps it crisp, and a navy trim makes the room feel like a cabana. Add a red striped towel, a rattan stool and a round mirror. Keep the florals away, the bathers are the flowers.
