Evening at a hotel that no longer exists, and possibly never did. Palm Court raises ivory scallop arches and dotted fan lines off a deep green ground, deco geometry with a supper-club glow. Drama, certainly, but the kind that arrives well dressed and leaves at a reasonable hour.

The design

Art Deco fan arches in ivory with dotted radiating lines on a deep dark green ground. Repeating scalloped geometry with high polish and strong rhythm. The ivory arches advance in even ranks while the deep green ground stays velvet-dark behind them, so the wall reads as rhythm before it reads as pattern. The dotted lines add sparkle at close range without disturbing the order from afar. Evening suits it best, when the green goes bottomless.

Dining rooms, home bars, bedrooms, powder rooms, and entryways that believe in making an entrance.

Style notes

Grand-cafe Deco, equal parts palm court and cocktail hour. It belongs with polished brass, dark cane, marble tables, and glassware that gets used. A home bar acquires a dress code by osmosis, and a bedroom gains a feature wall with evening plans. Somewhere just out of sight, a band is tuning up.
