The design

Repeating circles and arcs in beige and warm brown earth tones, arranged in a clean mid-century grid with soft contrast and a steady beat. The darker browns come forward and the beiges fall back, so the grid reads with a gentle push and pull rather than a flat repeat. From across the room it settles into a steady rhythm, and the arcs loosen it up close. Warm evening light does it the most favors, pulling everything toward amber.

Style notes

Straight out of the mid-century songbook, played at a relaxed tempo. It was practically drawn for teak and walnut, and it takes to leather, boucle, and burnt-orange wool with equal ease. Brass or black metal both work, and trim in warm white keeps the palette mellow. In a living room it hums along behind the furniture, and in an office it keeps ideas circulating.
