Sky Memphis takes the same eighties Memphis wallpaper and cools it down, teal circles, periwinkle triangles and yellow wedges scattered over a speckled pale blue ground. Same energy, different hour of the day.

The design

The shapes overlap at sharp angles, some dotted, some flecked with confetti, some flat, and the black squiggles between them keep the composition bouncing. The pale blue ground carries a soft periwinkle spatter, so it never goes flat. Teal and yellow do the shouting, periwinkle does the calming. In a bright room the wall feels like a poolside. In lamplight it feels like an arcade.

Works best in

Studies, reading nooks, breakfast banquettes and sunrooms. Cool Memphis suits a room where someone has to concentrate and still wants to enjoy the walls.

Style notes

White lacquer or pale ash, chrome and clear acrylic. A yellow chair is the obvious move and it works. Keep the floor plain and pale. Black trim makes it sharp, white trim makes it soft, both are legitimate.
