Gold tracery around a crimson heart. Crimson Reliquary is a baroque damask wallpaper with the weight of an old chapel hanging: crimson palmettes and tulip blooms held in gold acanthus scrolls on a black ground that looks aged by a century of candle smoke. It makes a room feel inherited.

The design

Crimson flower heads open like fans between curling gold leaves, and the scrollwork links them in the loose symmetry of a classic damask. The black ground carries a mottled, worn wash with a flush of red beneath it, so the wall looks like velvet that has seen things. From across the room it reads as red and gold on black, opulent and warm. Up close the ribbed petals, the flourishes on each leaf and the soft wear in the ground give it the presence of a much older room.

Works best in

Bedrooms, libraries, reading nooks, powder rooms, dining rooms and bars.

Style notes

Maximalist and warm. Pair it with mahogany, brass, deep red textiles and layered rugs. Black painted built ins frame it without competing. An oil painting in a gilt frame looks born here. In a bar corner it turns a drinks cart into a destination.

Order with confidence

Crimson Reliquary is an original WALLPLICITY design, refined as a seamless repeat so the scrollwork links up across every panel. Peel and stick or traditional wallpaper, as you like. Samples available, and the aged ground is worth seeing in your own lamplight.
