Garnet Crest is a heraldic damask wallpaper in garnet and gold on black, scrolling roses and acanthus around a shield bearing a rampant lion. It gives a dining room or study the swagger of a great hall.
The design
A gold lion on a garnet shield sits at the heart of each repeat, wreathed in red roses, pomegranates and curling gold leaves, with the scrolls mirrored so the wall reads as formal and balanced from across the room. Up close the crest and the blooms are richly detailed. The black ground makes the gold glow under lamplight. Daylight brings the roses forward.
Works best in
Dining rooms, studies, breakfast banquettes and window seats. Heraldry on the wall makes even a weeknight supper feel like a feast.
Style notes
Dark oak, walnut and antique brass are the partners. Black trim lets the crests run uninterrupted, while a deep cream trim frames the wall like a banner. Add a velvet chair in forest green, a brass candelabra and a tartan throw. Keep the modern chrome out of it.
