The design

A traditional Victorian damask in tonal grays, its ornamental repeat reading as quiet depth rather than announcement. Neutral enough to layer, detailed enough to matter. Tone-on-tone gray means the pattern surfaces and recedes as the light crosses it, more shadowplay than showpiece. Cool daylight turns it silvery, and warm bulbs nudge it toward dove.
