Candlelight was invented for this color. Plum Lantern is a burgundy damask wallpaper that hangs rows of brushed ogee lanterns in deep plum and black, edged in aged parchment, warm, worn in, and quietly grand. It makes a dining room feel like it has hosted a hundred good dinners already.

The design

Pointed lantern medallions hang in staggered rows, each with a black quatrefoil center, a wide band of wine-dark plum, and a pale parchment outline with the ragged, painterly edge of a dry brush. Slim teardrop drops fill the gaps between them like beads on a chain. From across the room the wall reads as a stately trellis of light shapes over dark. Up close the streaks in the parchment and the faint cloth-look ground give it the patina of an old ikat. Baroque in shape, bohemian in spirit.

Works best in

Dining rooms, bedrooms, entryways, living rooms, and powder rooms.

Style notes

Vintage eclectic with a wine-country warmth. Pair it with dark walnut, aged brass, and velvet in rust or moss. It makes white tableware and old mirrors look collected, not decorated. Keep the bulbs warm and the overheads dimmed, and let a pair of brass sconces carry the evening. In a bedroom it turns down the noise of the day.

Order with confidence

Plum Lantern is an original WALLPLICITY pattern with a seamless repeat, so the lanterns line up true from panel to panel. Peel and stick or traditional wallpaper, both on offer. Samples available.
