The wall you notice before you notice the furniture. Regency Gilt is a baroque scroll wallpaper that sweeps gold acanthus across a deep aubergine black ground, with peonies in dark wine tucked among the leaves. It makes a dining room feel like it has a history worth asking about.

The design

Broad acanthus leaves curl and unfurl in old gold, their edges catching light like carved giltwood, while lily shaped blooms in the same gold open at the tips. The peonies sit lower and darker, wine red shading to plum, so the eye finds the gold first and the flowers second. The ground carries a soft mottled wash of aubergine over black. From across the room it reads as gold on darkness, grand and warm. Up close the ribs of each leaf and the ruffled peony petals show the detail.

Works best in

Dining rooms, bedrooms, living rooms, powder rooms, studies and entry halls.

Style notes

Regency drama. Pair it with plum velvet, gilt frames, dark timber and low warm light. Trim in the same aubergine turns the room into one continuous field. A crystal decanter on a tray is the accessory it deserves. In a bedroom it makes even a Tuesday feel like a night at the opera.

Order with confidence

Regency Gilt is an original pattern from WALLPLICITY, made seamless so the scrolls sweep unbroken across every panel. Peel and stick or traditional wallpaper, both gilded. Samples available, so the gilt proves itself at home.
