Sintra Green is an aged tile wallpaper in green and white with the same worn glaze and loose grid as the rest of the Sintra tiles. Green ages more convincingly than most colors, which makes this the most believable of the three.

The design

Large quatrefoil medallions sit between smaller dark floral squares, everything slightly out of true. The green varies tile to tile from a pale sage where the glaze has thinned to a deep bottle where it pooled. Wide uneven grout lines and a faint surface haze complete the effect. Stand close and you can see where individual tiles have been cleaned more than others, a detail that only matters because it is the kind of thing real walls do.

Works best in

Kitchens, entryways, laundry rooms and a powder room. Aged green tile is a natural fit for a room with plants, wood and daily use.

Style notes

Reclaimed wood, cream painted cabinetry, and aged brass or unlacquered copper. A stone counter with some movement in it. Linen in flax, baskets in willow. Trim in a warm off white. Copper and green is a reliable pairing here. Daylight is the best light for a faded pattern, which holds together better than it does under a spotlight.
