Storyteller is a wall of small marks that look like they mean something. This folk block print wallpaper scatters navy and rust symbols across a linen cream ground, close enough together to hold a whole room and loose enough to stay friendly. It makes a plain hallway feel like it has a past.
The design
Combs, ladders, nested diamonds, spirals, arrows and little crowned figures, each one softened at the edges the way ink blooms on cloth. The navy carries most of the weight and the rust flashes through it like a second voice. From across the room the wall reads as a gentle blue and terracotta field, almost a tweed. Up close the symbols separate and start to tell their stories one by one.
Works best in
Living rooms, bedrooms, entry halls, kitchens, home offices and mudrooms.
Style notes
Scandinavian folk with a well traveled streak. Pair it with pale oak, black iron, wool, and white or indigo textiles. A bench with a sheepskin and a row of iron hooks makes a mudroom look planned. In a kitchen it gets along with open shelves and stoneware.
