The design

White baroque scrollwork flowing over a warm burnt-orange ground: ornate curls with strong contrast and an old-world, sun-warmed palette. The white curls float forward like lacework while the burnt orange radiates behind them, so the wall gives off actual warmth. From the next room it reads as filigree over terracotta, and by candlelight the ground smolders. Morning light keeps it cheerful, and dusk makes it glow like a hearth.
