A gilded chalice held inside a frame of leaves, then again, and again. Chalice Damask is a William Morris style ogee damask wallpaper that sets golden urn blooms and burgundy peonies within slate blue acanthus, each lobe framed in gold tracery on a midnight ground. It gives a study the look of a room where serious reading happens.
The design
The ogee frames swell and taper like the walls of a chapel window, and inside each one a gold artichoke bloom rises above a wreath of blue green acanthus, with wine red peonies to either side. Fine gold vines with small leaves fill the outer bays, so no part of the wall goes quiet. From across the room it reads as a formal damask in gold and slate on black. Up close the layered leaves, the beaded frames and the tiny blossoms show the depth of the design.
Works best in
Studies, living rooms, reading nooks, powder rooms, breakfast nooks and dining rooms.
Style notes
Dark academia, fully committed. Pair it with navy panelling, brass, tufted leather and a globe on a stand. Low lamplight is the point, not a compromise. In a powder room it makes a quick visit feel like an audience.
