The design

Sophisticated French Bulldog portraits in ornate top hats, set in charcoal, gold and blue gray. Quirky subject, serious rendering. The warm tan of each face comes forward while the charcoal ground and blue gray shadows hold the depth behind it. The antique gold reads as candlelight even at noon. Across the room the portraits hang in stately rows, and up close the fine linework refuses to blink first.

Style notes

Victorian portrait convention applied to a dog with opinions, which is the grandmillennial project in one wall. It keeps company with tufted leather, dark oak, polished brass and tartan wherever tartan can be defended. In a home office it supervises, and in an entryway it checks invitations. Monsieur does not fetch, Monsieur delegates.
