The design

Octopus portraits in ornate hats and spectacles, gold-etched tentacles curling over ink blue and slate. Maximalist movement, nautical gothic. The gold does the swirling against the ink ground, keeping the eye moving in slow, deliberate circles. From a distance it reads as ornate filigree, and only up close does the filigree admit to having eight arms and a hat.

Style notes

Victorian maritime gothic, tailored to the tentacle. It anchors beside brass instruments, navy velvet, dark-stained wood, and glassware deep enough to toast a safe crossing.
