Any respectable club needs a founding member, and this one chose a bear in a top hat. Dapper Bear is a Victorian animal wallpaper that frames its woodland gentry in navy, brown and tan, layered with period flourish: storied, sophisticated and absurd enough to be excellent company.

The design

Bears in top hats set among layered Victorian ornament in navy, brown and tan. Vintage formality served with a wink. The tan ornament glows against the navy like candlelit woodwork, giving the formality real warmth. Distance turns it into stately damask, and the bears emerge one by one as you approach, each on his best behavior. Navy this deep behaves like charcoal but friendlier, holding the room steady without freezing it.

Works best in

Studies, bedrooms, dining rooms, powder rooms, home bars and entryways that take their whimsy in a smoking jacket.

Style notes

Gentleman's-club tradition, chaired by a bear. It sits comfortably with oxblood leather, dark oak, tartan wool and brass picture lights.
