Reptiles rarely dress this well. Dapper Dragon is a dark Victorian animal wallpaper that poses bearded dragons in top hats among shadowy swirling motifs in charcoal and brown: gothic Victoriana with a scaly membership roster. The room reads moody and refined, and the punchline reveals itself only on approach.

The design

Bearded dragons in top hats woven through dark swirling Victorian motifs in charcoal and brown. Gothic mood, meticulous mischief. The charcoal ground swallows the edges of the motifs, so the lizards seem to materialize rather than repeat. Warm light picks out the brown scales first, and the swirls keep the eye circling until it finds another hat. The palette stays sober enough that from the sofa it passes for heritage damask.
