The design

Gothic hens in formal attire among dark botanicals in rich blacks and browns. Brooding Victorian layers, sharpened with barnyard wit. The dark botanicals do the brooding while the hens supply the posture, combs and brims catching what light there is. At any distance it plays as grave heritage pattern, and the punchline waits patiently for close range. Browns rise out of the black slowly, like a fire banked for the night.

Libraries, dining rooms, bedrooms, home bars, entryways and any room that rules the roost quietly.

Style notes

Gothic farmhouse, if the farmhouse kept a valet. Set it with blackened oak, pewter, unbleached linen and eggshell trim purely for the joke. A dining room turns supper into an event with opinions, and an entryway tips guests off that the house has wit. Rule the roost, but do it in formalwear.
