The design

Saturated jewel-tone peonies and layered foliage on a midnight ground. Deep color against deeper dark, with a glow that carries across the room. The midnight ground gives each bloom its own small stage, so the color reads as glow rather than crowd. From a distance the wall suggests jewels in a dark case, and up close the petal layering does the work. The darker the evening, the richer it looks.

Style notes

Maximal florals under moody-botanical rules: saturation first, then discipline. Velvet in plum or emerald, brass with some age on it, and dark cherry wood all belong.
