The design

Lush gothic peonies with intricate petal detail and deep layered shading. Vintage floral structure carried in a dark, dimensional palette. The petals catch what light there is and the shadows swallow the rest, so the blooms appear lit from within the gloom. Across a room it reads as pure atmosphere, and at close range the petal-by-petal drawing rewards the trip. Candlelight treats it better than any other pattern in the house.

Style notes

Dutch still life energy, minus the pheasant. Velvet in oxblood or forest, nearly black woods, and unpolished brass keep the mood consistent.
