The design
Lion portraits in tall hats, golden mane over warm brown and charcoal. Painterly depth, commanding presence. The mane carries the light, so each portrait reads as a warm point against the charcoal field. From across the room the wall settles into a stately rhythm, and up close the detail in the mane does the talking. Lamplight deepens the browns and turns the gold nearly amber.
