No one in this saloon is buying the first round; every skull is wearing sunglasses and playing it very cool. Longhorn Saloon runs its Western deadpan in black and grey: bold, allover, and strangely dignified. Leather, wood, and metal accents fall in line immediately.
The design
Longhorn skulls in assorted sunglasses repeated in a bold monochrome of blacks and greys. Dense allover pattern with confident Western linework. Density works in this pattern's favor: from across the room it lands as bold monochrome, and the joke waits by the door. The white details flash first against the black, so the wall reads graphic before it reads funny. The grey keeps the crowd of skulls orderly, which somehow makes it funnier.
Works best in
Home bars, game rooms, boys' bedrooms, powder rooms, and dens where the decor tells the jokes.
Style notes
Western iconography played completely straight, which is the oldest trick in comedy. Distressed leather, dark wood, gunmetal hardware, and a neon sign if you have one, all welcome. A home bar gains a house style, a game room gains a referee, and a boys' room gains the coolest wall on the block. Nobody laughs first.
