The design

Hippo portraits in aged gold top hats and bow ties, gray and charcoal with warm metallic accents. Monumental scale, deadpan charm. The charcoal ground pushes the portraits forward, and the gold accents catch whatever light the room offers. From across the room it reads as a stately repeat, while the crease-by-crease detail waits for closer inspection. Lamplight favors the metallics and turns each bow tie into a small event.

Style notes

Victorian portraiture with a straight face and a very large sitter. It wants walnut or ebonized wood, aged brass hardware, and leather in oxblood or tan.
