The design

Soft silhouettes of forest trees with small deer, foxes, rabbits and birds on a deep charcoal ground, neutral and quietly whimsical. The charcoal turns the trees into shadows, and the pale animals read like sparks of detail scattered through them. From the doorway it is a calm, dark field, and at crib height it becomes a seek-and-find. Lamplight softens the contrast until the forest seems to settle in for the night.

Style notes
