Warm where the claret version is deep, Amber Acanthus is a damask wallpaper of bronze and amber foliage worked across black. It is the friendliest of the three and the one that suits a room used in daylight.
The design
The same swirling acanthus, this time lit in amber at the leaf tips and shading through bronze to dark brown in the hollows. Amber against black behaves like firelight on wood. Coverage is complete, so the pattern never resolves into a grid. Look closely and there are small curled tendrils tucked between the larger leaves that only show up at arm's length.
Works best in
Libraries, studies, bedrooms and dining rooms. Warm dark walls hold up in north facing rooms where cool colors go lifeless.
Style notes
Oak or walnut with a warm finish, aged brass, and leather in tan or cognac. Wool in rust, gold or cream. Green plants read well against amber. Trim in a deep bronze rather than black keeps the warmth going. A reading lamp with a warm bulb beside a chair is all the light this wall needs to come alive.
