Steel Frond is the cool one in this set. Acanthus fronds in steel blue carve their way across near black on a wallpaper that feels closer to armor than to foliage.
The design
Blue gray highlights run along every ridge while the recesses drop to black, so the leaves read as metal catching a narrow light. The curl of each frond stays sharp rather than soft. Because the palette is entirely cool, the pattern does not warm up under lamplight the way the copper version does, holding its character from morning through evening. It is the steadiest of the three fronds.
Works best in
Media rooms, home offices, entryways and a bedroom. Cool dark walls absorb screen glare and keep a room from feeling like a light box.
Style notes
Blackened steel, walnut and charcoal upholstery. Wool in slate, bone or a single rust accent to stop the room going monochrome. Brass works but nickel works better. Trim in near black. Directional lighting is what makes the relief visible, so favor sconces and picture lights over a central fixture.
