Amethyst Plume takes the same gold deco fan and drops it onto a violet so deep it borders on black. The result is a wallpaper that reads almost neutral from the doorway and turns unmistakably purple once you are in the room.
The design
Gold rays fan open inside each arch, brushed so the metal shifts as you move past it. The violet ground carries a faint cloudiness, more dyed silk than flat paint, which keeps a large wall from going dead. Where the arches meet, thin gold lines trace the join and hold the columns together. Evening light is where this one lives.
Works best in
Living rooms, dining rooms, powder rooms and bars. Violet flatters skin tones, which is a real advantage in any room where people sit and talk.
Style notes
Ebony and smoked glass suit it. Brass hardware, either polished or antique, both read well against the gold. Upholster in bronze, olive or a dusty rose and skip anything blue. A dark ceiling makes the violet feel intentional rather than accidental. Sconces at eye level flatter the fans more than overhead light does.
