Bracken Weave is a dark stripe wallpaper in charcoal, olive and bracken brown. It has the density of a heavy wool blanket and turns a plain room into something that feels built rather than decorated.

The design

Broad bands of near black sit beside olive and deep brown, with narrow tan cords separating them. Several stripes carry a coarse basketweave structure that breaks up the dark and keeps a large wall from reading as a void. The tan lines are the only bright element and they do a lot of work. In low light the whole thing settles into a single deep brown.

Works best in

Studies, media rooms, bedrooms and entryways. Dark stripes are steadier than dark florals, which makes them easier to live with on all four walls.

Style notes

Walnut or oiled oak, leather in cognac, and antique brass. Wool throws in rust or moss. Trim painted in the same charcoal makes the room feel upholstered. A single brass picture light or a pair of sconces is better than a ceiling fixture, which flattens the weave. Avoid cool gray textiles, which turn the olive muddy.
