Brass Poppy is a wallpaper of scrolling poppies in warm brass across a true black ground. The stems are the story here, sweeping in long curves that carry the eye around the wall instead of straight up it.
The design
Each poppy sits at the end of a heavy curving stem, some open with dark centers, others still closed in bud. The brass has real variation in it, brighter along the leaf edges and deeper in the folds, so the foliage reads as relief. Black fills every gap with no pattern of its own, which is why the brass reads so hot. In candlelight this one behaves like gilding.
Works best in
Dining rooms, bars, powder rooms and an entryway that should stop people at the door. Rooms used mostly after dark get the best of it.
Style notes
Dark walnut, aged brass, and a table with a heavy base. Chairs in black leather or a deep green velvet. Glass and mirror bounce the brass around, so a mirrored sideboard is worth considering. Candles over pendants. If the trim is currently white, painting it black is the single change that makes this pattern land.
