Cathedral Aqua is a wallpaper of tall leaded glass bays in aqua and flame, divided by dark vertical mullions that run the full height of the wall. Where the quatrefoil patterns are dense fields, this one is architecture.
The design
Between the mullions each bay carries a column of pointed lancets filled with aqua glass, with flame red flowers opening at intervals down the run. The verticals are strong enough to read as structure from across a room. Smaller diamonds of turquoise and amber fill the gaps between the larger shapes. The contrast between the cool glass and the hot red is sharp and deliberate.
Works best in
Living rooms, dining rooms, entryways and a bar. Strong vertical patterns add height, which is the easiest visual gain available in a room with a standard ceiling.
Style notes
Blackened steel, walnut, and upholstery in charcoal or a deep teal. One red accent, no more, since the wall has that handled. A tall mirror or a narrow bookcase continues the verticals. Trim in near black. Keep art off this wall entirely and hang it opposite, where it will read against a plain ground.
