Chapel Green is a dark green wallpaper with pale gold chrysanthemums opening among heavy forest leaves. Green on green is a restrained choice and the gold blooms are what keep it from going quiet altogether.
The design
The leaves dominate, broad and deeply veined in two or three greens that separate only where the light hits. Chrysanthemum heads sit among them in pale gold and bone, each one opening flat so you see the full flower. Stems in a rust brown thread through and tie the layers together. Across a full wall the effect is dense planting seen in low light rather than a flat pattern.
Works best in
Studies, bedrooms, dining rooms and a sunroom with limited light. Green reads as restful even at this depth, which makes it a safe choice for a room you spend hours in.
Style notes
Oak, rattan and antique brass. Upholstery in ochre, cream or a soft rust. Bookshelves in the same deep green make the room feel built rather than papered. Avoid gray, which dulls the gold. Trim in a bronze or deep olive. Warm bulbs are essential, since cool light drags the greens toward blue.
