Copper Frond is a wallpaper of copper acanthus fronds carved across near black, looser and more organic than a formal damask. The fronds tumble rather than march, which gives the whole wall movement.
The design
Each frond curls back on itself with the tip turned over, modeled so strongly that the leaves appear to lift off the surface. Copper runs bright along the ridges and falls to a dark chocolate in the valleys. There is no symmetry and no obvious repeat unit, just continuous foliage running in one general direction. The effect is closest to pressed metal ceiling tile, translated into leaves.
Works best in
Dining rooms, entryways, studies and a bar. Patterns with real modeling reward rooms where light comes from the side rather than straight down.
Style notes
Walnut, copper or aged brass, and leather in cognac. Textiles in cream, olive or rust. A copper or brass pendant continues the metal without being literal about it. Trim in a deep brown. Wall lights that graze the surface will exaggerate the relief, which is the single best thing you can do for this pattern.
