Dune Grasscloth is a natural look wallpaper in sand and pale wheat, fine horizontal strands laid side by side the way real grasscloth is woven onto its backing. It gives a room the easy warmth of a beach house in October.
The design
Hundreds of slender strands cross the wall, each a slightly different shade of sand, with the odd darker fibre breaking the rhythm the way it does in the real thing. The eye reads it as a soft horizontal grain rather than a stripe. Morning light rakes across it and the strands stand up. By evening it settles into one warm tan.
Works best in
Sunrooms, living rooms, bedrooms and dining rooms. It flatters wicker, white paint and anything made of wood.
Style notes
Rattan, bleached oak and brushed brass are the obvious partners, and they are right. Trim in a warm white keeps the room light, while a deep olive trim turns it into a study. Add a jute rug, a linen slipcover and one bowl of something green. If the room has a view, this wall will not compete with it.
