Indigo Silhouette is the quietest of the silhouette wallpapers. The black damask medallion on a deep indigo ground gives less contrast than the others, so the pattern reads as a soft field from across the room and only resolves when you come closer.

The design

Because indigo and black sit near each other in value, the motif emerges gradually rather than announcing itself. The ogee frame links unit to unit in a continuous field. Where light falls directly the indigo brightens and the medallion becomes obvious. In shadow the whole wall goes nearly solid. That range is the reason to choose this one over the brighter grounds.

Works best in

Living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms and a media room. Low contrast patterns behave like a solid color from a distance, which suits large rooms where a bold repeat would be too much.

Style notes

Walnut, brass and cream upholstery. A camel or bone sofa reads beautifully against indigo. Wool in oatmeal or a rust accent. Trim in indigo or near black. Brighter lighting is worth it here, since low light loses the pattern entirely and you end up with an expensive navy wall.
