Marina Wave is an art deco wave wallpaper in gold on deep petrol teal, rows of fine gold lines rolling across the wall like a tide traced by a jeweller. It gives a reading nook the hush of a jazz age ocean liner.
The design
Each wave is a bundle of slender gold lines that rise and fall together, and the rows stack from floor to ceiling so the whole wall moves. The petrol ground carries a soft mottle like deep water. From across the room the wall is a dark shimmer with a horizontal pulse. Up close the lines are fine as wire. Lamplight turns the gold to candle flame.
Works best in
Reading nooks, mudrooms with ambition, sunrooms used at dusk and window seats. It suits a corner meant for a late book.
Style notes
Walnut, brass and smoked glass keep it deco. Trim in a deep petrol teal lets the waves run to the ceiling, while a cream trim frames them like a mural. Add a velvet chair in rust, a brass reading lamp and one shell. Chrome dulls it, brass lights it.
