Strip the color out and the architecture is what remains. Onyx Plume is a black and gold deco wallpaper where the ground goes to true black and the fans carry the entire room on their own.
The design
Gold rays open inside each arch and then fade toward the base, so the fans appear lit from above. Against black the metal reads warm and slightly aged rather than shiny. The negative space does real work here, giving the eye somewhere to rest between columns. Under low light the wall nearly disappears and only the gold stays visible, which is a good trick in a room built for screens.
Works best in
Media rooms, bars, dining rooms and a powder room with no natural light. Black walls make a television look like furniture instead of an appliance.
Style notes
Black on black is the move. Dark cabinetry, blackened steel or polished brass, and a rug with enough pattern to hold the floor. Bring in warmth through leather, wool and a single brass lamp rather than through wall color. Keep art minimal, since the wall is already doing the talking. If the room has crown moulding, paint it out in the same black.
