Peacock Scale is an art deco fan wallpaper in gold on deep teal, overlapping scallops each holding a single peacock eye, rising in rows like plumage across the wall. It makes a dining room feel like the best table in a grand hotel.
The design
Every scale is a half circle filled with fine radiating gold lines, and at its heart sits a teal and gold eye the way a peacock feather carries one. The scales overlap so each row rests in the curve of the row below. From across the room the wall is a shimmer of gold over deep teal. Up close the detail is jewel like. Candlelight is its natural element.
Works best in
Dining rooms, libraries, living rooms and media rooms. It is a dark wall that throws light back, so it suits a room used in the evening.
Style notes
Walnut, brass and black lacquer keep it deco. Trim in a deep teal lets the scales run to the ceiling, while a cream trim frames them like a mural. Add velvet in teal or mustard, a brass chandelier and one black and white photograph. Avoid chrome, this is a gold room.
