Plum Frond swaps copper for a deep plum and the whole pattern cools down. Acanthus fronds curl across near black in shades of aubergine and mulberry on this wallpaper, still carved, still moving, but calmer.
The design
The modeling is the same, with each leaf tip turned over and caught by the light, but plum reads softer than metal ever does. Highlights come up in a dusty mauve and the shadows go almost black. Without any obvious repeat the foliage simply continues in every direction. Plum is an unusual color at this depth and it flatters warm and cool schemes equally.
Works best in
Bedrooms, dining rooms, powder rooms and a library. Deep purples are underused on walls and behave much like a neutral once they are this dark.
Style notes
Walnut or black stained oak with brass. Bedding in bone, blush or a deep olive. Brass and plum is a reliable pairing and gold takes it further. Trim in aubergine or near black. One thing to avoid is bright white bedding, which makes the plum look gray rather than rich.
