Riviera Awning is a wide awning stripe wallpaper in cognac and cream with the look of woven canvas, the broad bands of a cafe awning on a seafront promenade. It brings the Mediterranean indoors without a single seashell.
The design
Broad stripes of warm cognac alternate with cream, and both carry the fine crosshatch of canvas so the wall reads as cloth rather than paint. The bands are generous and even, with clean edges and no fuss. Daylight brings out the tan in the cognac. Lamplight deepens it to toffee and makes the cream look like linen.
Works best in
Living rooms, libraries, media rooms and mudrooms. It suits a room with good bones and a sense of humour.
Style notes
Rattan, teak and aged brass make it feel like a club on the coast. Trim in a warm white keeps it breezy, while a cognac trim turns the room into a cabana. Add a striped cushion in a different scale, a leather pouf and a potted palm. It loves blue accents and hates grey ones.
