Sage Windowpane is a windowpane check wallpaper in sage green on oatmeal linen, thin green lines crossing a soft woven ground in wide open panes. It is the quietest plaid there is and the easiest to live with.
The design
Each line is fine and slightly soft edged, as if woven into the cloth rather than printed on it, and the panes between them are generous enough to read as calm rather than busy. The oatmeal ground carries a gentle linen grain. From across the room the wall is a warm neutral with a hint of green. Up close the grid is crisp and orderly.
Works best in
Sunrooms, kitchens, reading nooks and home offices. It flatters painted furniture and brings a garden room indoors.
Style notes
Painted pine, wicker and black iron suit it, and so does old brass. Trim in a soft sage ties the lines to the woodwork, while a warm white trim keeps it airy. Add a ticking stripe, a basket and a jug of herbs. It is the wall for a room that opens onto something green.
