Sapphire Quatrefoil is a leaded glass wallpaper in deep blue. Sapphire petals sit in bronze came with amber jewels at the junctions, and the blue against the warm metal is the oldest color pairing in church glass for good reason.

The design

Each petal runs from a mid cobalt at the tip to an inky navy at the base with streaking through the middle. Bronze leading defines every edge and builds the diamond lattice behind. The amber squares at the crossings are the only warm notes and they carry real weight against so much blue. At a distance the field reads as a deep mottled navy with gold sparks, and the petal shapes only separate once you are close.

Works best in

Bathrooms, powder rooms, bedrooms and a media room. Deep blue is restful at scale, which makes this the calmest of the glass patterns despite the detail.

Style notes

Bronze or aged brass, a dark wood vanity, and white or pale stone to lift the room. Towels in cream or bone. A brass framed mirror picks up the amber. Trim in near black or the same deep blue. Warm bulbs are important here, as cool light flattens the blue into something closer to denim.
