Some walls should feel like they were troweled, not papered. Soft Marmorino is a greige plaster wallpaper with the cloudy depth of Venetian marmorino, warm grey and beige folded together in a slow, even mottle.
The design
There is no pattern to find, only movement. Pale clouds of greige open and close across the surface the way polished plaster catches a trowel, a shade lighter here, a shade deeper there, with the look of a faint burnish where the light lands. Across a room it is a single warm grey. Beside a lamp it has the depth of stone. It never reads as flat paint.
Works best in
Living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms and hallways. It is the wall that makes everything in front of it look more expensive.
Style notes
Warm woods and warm metals: walnut, smoked oak, aged brass. Trim in the same greige lets the wall run uninterrupted, while a crisp white trim sharpens the room. Boucle, mohair and a heavy linen curtain belong here, and so does one large piece of art. Keep the palette tight and the plaster does the rest.
