Taupe Herringbone is a tweed look wallpaper in taupe and cream, tiny chevrons woven into one warm field with the depth of a favourite wool jacket. It gives a room the comfort of cloth without a single stripe to count.
The design
The chevrons are small and tightly packed, zigzagging in close columns so that from across the room the wall reads as a single heathered taupe. Step closer and the herringbone appears, cream threads crossing taupe in a steady rhythm. Daylight shows the weave. Lamplight turns it the colour of milky coffee and hides the pattern altogether.
Works best in
Dining rooms, bedrooms, kitchens and window seats. It warms a formal room and makes a casual one look considered.
Style notes
Walnut, leather and aged brass belong with it, and so does a dark green velvet chair. Trim in a soft putty keeps the wall mellow, while a chocolate trim makes the tweed read as the light note. Add a plaid throw in the same tones and one brass lamp. Keep florals away, this wall is menswear.
