Tawny Weave is a chevron wallpaper that behaves like fabric. Fine columns of tawny brown, indigo and pale gray zigzag up the wall in a herringbone that reads as tweed from across the room.
The design
The chevrons are narrow and closely packed, so the pattern holds together as a single field rather than breaking into obvious stripes. Color shifts column to column, some running warm brown, others cooling into slate and indigo. Up close you can follow individual threads. From the doorway it is simply a warm, moving surface with no hard edges anywhere.
Works best in
Mudrooms, entryways, home offices and a bar. Small dense patterns hide scuffs and hard use better than anything with large open areas.
Style notes
Oak with a warm stain, black iron hooks, and a runner in a flat weave. Benches in leather or canvas. Trim in a deep bronze or charcoal keeps the wall continuous. This pattern takes wear well, so it suits the part of the house where coats and boots land. Warm light brings the tawny forward, cool light pushes the indigo.
