Topaz Quatrefoil is a leaded glass wallpaper in olive gold. The petals here are the same tone family as the jewels, so instead of contrast the whole field glows at one temperature, warm all the way through.
The design
Petals run from a pale wheat at the tips through olive to a deep bronze at the base, each piece streaked and uneven. Because the glass and the leading share a palette, the lattice reads as part of the field rather than as a frame. The amber squares at the crossings are slightly brighter than everything around them and give the eye somewhere to go. The overall impression is antique brass rather than stained glass, which is a different and quieter effect.
Works best in
Entryways, bars, dining rooms and a home office. Monochrome warm patterns are unusual and make a hallway feel considered rather than leftover.
Style notes
Walnut, unlacquered brass, and a console with some weight. Textiles in olive, cream or rust. A mirror with an antique gold frame disappears into the wall in the best way. Trim in a deep olive or bronze. Avoid cool metals entirely here, since nickel and chrome look wrong against this palette.
